What I’m Doing Now

I’ve spent the past few years working remotely for the most part. I don’t really see that changing for the foreseeable although my current contract at Money Supermarket asks (not demands) that I come in once or twice a week.

I don’t mind that routine but I do love being able to spend more time with my family and get the to gym at lunch instead of cycling to and from work. As an added bonus, rates for contract developers remain high here in Manchester as companies in London are now recruiting from across the UK and the demand for developers isn’t going anywhere.

Our third baby is due imminently our other two are both getting big! We managed a couple of staycations last year which were actually pretty nice and although they weren’t as exciting as some of the trips I’ve enjoyed in the past, they made for a nice break and an opportunity to have some fun with the kids.

On the contract front, I had a bit of a hard time coming to terms with submitting my notice three times in 2021…it wasn’t something I’d ever done in 10 years of contracting but in retrospect that reflects positively on the contracts I’ve had being good fit for me. I picked up a new role late in 2021 with Benefex that I wrapped up in January 2022 and am currently engaged with Money Supermarket. Both of my recent contracts have been great and it’s just underscored the point for me that there is no value in being miserable in your job.

Goals for 2022

  • Keep myself booked up with contract work that I enjoy
  • Stop getting distracted so easily and stay focused on the core things that actually matter to me.

This is a now page. If my activities or priorities change, I’ll update it.
