Justin Gilchrist and I first became acquainted when I approached him after discovering his work online. Justin has been well-known in the world of buying and selling digital assets, specifically websites for many years and I was delighted to learn that he lived just a few miles away from me. I didn’t end up purchasing a website, or a subsequent digital agency that he helped me to evaluate but we became friendly and have kept in touch over the past few years.
In this episode we chat about his new business, Wellbox. Wellbox was born out of the pandemic when demand for Justin’s main business (a catering company called South) dried up. Wellbox, instead of offering business lunches like South, offer gift boxes that can be ordered online and delivered directly to the recipient.
Justin explains that things had been going pretty well for South as they were one of the larger corporate hospitality companies in the North West but COVID caused everything to take a nose dive. When things started to east in June 2020, Justin felt that the writing was on the wall and the people simply wouldn’t be returning to work on-site, en masse. That said, he had 32 staff, a bit industrial unit and 7 vehicles so couldn’t just shut up shop.
Justin pivoted South into Wellbox and has leveraged his knowledge of programming and technology to take the business nationwide at an incredible pace. Have a listen and learn about how he’s been able to quickly validate his idea and get it to market.
